Preventive Breast Cancer Measures

Of course, no one knows 100% why some women are afflicted with breast cancer and others are not but there are some measures one to take to put yourself in the best possible situation for avoiding it. Always keep your weight at a healthy level as obesity and breast cancer have been linked. It has been shown that the production of estrogen in fatty tissue may be the cause of this link. Don’t drink too much alcohol as there could be a link between this and breast cancer. Keep yourself as physically active as possible with as much exercise, including weight bearing exercises which will also keep your bones strong. On these lines, reduce fat in your diet as much as possible, in fact to around 35 percent of your daily calories. There are some tremendous organizations out there helping with research and preventive measures for those suffering from breast cancer such as the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, co-founded by a slew of great women including Jamie Tisch.

Major Donors to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund

One of the major donors to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, co-founded by Kelly Chapman Meyer, Marion Laurie, Anne Douglas, Quinn Ezralow and Jamie Tisch, is the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure was started by Susan G. Komen’s sister, Nancy G. Brinker. Nancy promised her sister, after Susan’s fight with breast cancer, that she would do everything in her power to fight the cancer.

That promise turned into Susan G. Komen for the Cure. They are a global leader in the breast cancer movement, with almost $1.5 billion invested since the inception in 1982. They are the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists. Certainly, the co-founders of the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, including Jamie Tisch, are thrilled to have the support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Jamie Tisch, Other WCRF Founders, with Brooke Shields

While this event was quite awhile ago, it's still interesting to see pictures of these dedicated, lovely women. This picture includes Marion Laurie, Jamie Tisch and Kelly Meyer, a few of the founders of the Women's Cancer Research Fund, posing with Brooke Sheilds. They were at Saks Fifth Avenue's Viva La Cure to kickoff the "Key to the Cure" weekend at The Sea Grill in New York City.
